Baht has been a strong contender in the market from 1956 to 73 as it was pegged at 1 dollar = 20.8 baht. Then they had to reduce the rate to 1 dollar = 25 baht in 1984 until 1997. Owing to Asian financial crisis and the instability of the local government, the baht to dollar was quoted at 1 dollar to 56 baht in 1998. Now it is almost stable at 30 baht.
